Last year I aimed at breaking 200 species on a semi big year for NYC.A few life birds later, I barely broke 150.  I missed many shore birds, who never seemed to be where I was looking. This year I will try and make my way to Jamaica Bay hoping to add bird numbers. The warblers were slow in coming and fast in leaving. Many of the more common warblers were not located in my usual birding spots. I did, however, get to record more thrush (including Varied) and Owls (last January,  Barred and Saw Whet, but missed on LEO and Barn (which I can usually locate around City Island). I met many birders who traveled up and down NY State and their tallies were almost 300! It is back to full-time work for me so this year my numbers may be low, but the enjoyment of birding and keeping my yearly list will be just as exciting!
