October delight! Clay-colored sparrow. This bird has a ghost-like quality and appears whiter and brighter than other sparrows making it a bit easier to recognize in a flock of mixed sparrows. To make positive ID check for the gray shawl on its neck and the eyebrow line that stops abruptly right before its eye. Immature chipping sparrows may look similar - at times- but their eyebrow line emerges from the other side of the eye running right through.
White throated sparrow - The New York Botanical Garden
Often referred to a LBJ (little brown jobs) sparrows are mainly brown, or beige in coloring and are small birds of the city and forest. A good sampling of sparrows can be observed during the spring migration, but for a real superb look, try the month of October for sparrow spotting.
