  • Fall Migration

The Couch's Kingbird was named by Darius Couch in 1853 while on a scientific expedition for the Smithsonian. The Kingbird lives primarily in Guatemala and Mexico and visits Southern Texas. Apparently the Kingbird has been hawking on Jane and Washington, in the West Village, for a few weeks and was thought to be a large goldfinch. Thanks to Gabriel Willow, who found the bird through a friend, hundreds of birders have been enjoying (and adding to their life list, for sure) this southern beauty.

Pine Siskins! A large flock of 75 + came down to feed in the Native Plant Garden. Other areas of the city have reported this uncommon irruption of Pine Siskins but the Garden seems to have attracted the greatest number.

Field Sparrow - in the field! Well hidden, but the white eye ring and pink bill are always a good way to identify this beautiful bird.
